HAPPY NEW YEAR 2012 to all of you!!

The best way to start a new year is making models, so, here my contribution to this new year. This is the 3th chapter of the whole painting process of a winter Tiger I in 1/48th scale. If you haven't see the other two, please, read first the chapter I and the chapter II.
Now is time for chipping and oil paint effects.

We start using the dark bromw 70922 from vallejo. It's a good color for paint dark metal chips. Use a very fine brush, new one and sharp.

Start doing small dots, and lines...very small, and keep gorwing it as much as you want.

Treat each detail in a different way. Example, more intense chipping in some parts, while others remain more new. That contrast will help to the model to give bigger realism.

The oil paints is always a important step in each weathering. This paint is very flexible, easy to blend and colorfull. The oils can help us to give contrast, deep, shadows, and much more effects to our models. In this case, we will use few basic colors to create a contrast effect in some mudguards and some horizontal areas. Maybe, in anotehr kind of subject we can use more oils, or less. We must adapt this technique to each model and evoirement.

Use the white color to reiforce the white camo. Use a medium round brush for this task.

Apply the color only in one side of the mudguard section.

Just in the next section, apply a grey-brown color.

Clean the brush or take a new one and with a litle White Spirit stump the color.

See the result. The transition is soft, but each color, both , the white and brown, are gradually more intense to the union of both mudguards sections. It create contrast, a subtile and nice visual effect to give volume to our model. You can use this technique not only in the mudguards, but in any other part of your model, like panels, hatches, engine compartiments and much more. Just selct the apropiated color for each subject. In this case I used white because the base color is winter camo.

Another example. This time we use a dirty grey to represent the acumulated dirt over the horizontal surfaces, like around the turret ring.

One more time, paint and stump with a clean brush and a little White Spirit.

Use the white Oil color to make the highlights in the winter camo. After the washes adn streaking effects, the look of our model will be a little dark, not as white as we can expect of a winter tank. Now is time to bring to the life the white camo adding small dots of white color in some areas. Don't over do it and be RANDOM with this process. And of course, stump or blend the color to make it softer and natural.

Ok, another step is already done. Very slowly, our model is getting contrast and tonal variation. This is very important in this kind of vehicles, to avoid the monotonie and boring surfaces. Note how you can see the original camo under the winter camo, faded and damage by the envoirements and elements. The chipping is adapted to the scale. These ones must be small and not excesive. And the new shades that we have give to our model will give volume and a rich surface. Now is time to paint all small details before we made the mud and dust and the final effects.
In the next chapter, I will explain how to give the final touches to the model. We will work with the spare links around the turret, painted also in winter camo. We will add the earth, mud, oils and grease and much more. Keep tunned and thank you very much for read this. I hope you like the progress of this small example of a winter tank. It is really easy and simple if you follow these steps.

Tiger I 1/48 Winter camo "Part 4" LINKS

Let's go to paint the spare links today.
Use tape to keep the links in position to be painted with Airbrush. Use a dark brown color, Tamiya or Mr Hobby could be perfect. Then, using the range of Lifecolor to make rust, paint different shades in some links.

As soon as it is dry, apply a coat of Worn Effects to create small chips.

Now apply the white color, Tamiya one mixed with a 40% of Gaianaotes lacquer thinner. Don't apply a heavy coat, just a little soft. With heavy coats is more diffciult to create small chipping.

After you paint it, use water and a flat hard brush to remove part of the white paint. before, you made humidify the surface with a little water, and wait few seconds until the white paint get fragil and ready to work.

Now glue the links to the turret with Super Glue. the rest of the weathering will be done with them in place.

use differnet shades of washes and Streaking grime colors and repeat the same proces like in the rest of the tank, but less intense.

You can repaint some chips if you don't like too much the look. Also, you can add some Streaking Rust and finally some highlight with white oil to refoirce the contrast.

With few steps the look is very realistic. Not needed too much steps and could be more than anought for a scale like 1/48 or 1/35.

Compare the size of the spare links with my fingers....

...and see how effective can be this technique in a close view.

Do you like it? I hope. The next chapter will be the last one for sure. Just mud and dust and final touches. But I thought that this subject deserved a chapter for it self.

Thank you very much one more time for follow this blog.

Tiger I 1/48 Winter camo "Part 5" THE END

Finally the model is finished. After add the mud and other small effects, it is ready in case we want to make a small diorama. Is very important to see the nice effect made by the acumulated earth in the horizontal surface in the upper hull. It help to create contrast and bring down the excesive white brightness.

Ok, let's go to finish the model. Some steps before. use a graphite pencil to make the metal effect in the MG ring. This useful tool can help us to give a metal look to many details. Keep it sharp.

The different tools was painted using Vallejo colors. Paint some shadows and some highlights to create a volume in the tools and accesories. You can add some dust effects with pigments or washes to adapt the tools to the rest of the weathered vehicle.

The fire extinguiser is really small. But I was able to paint a mini label with a fine brush and vallejo colors. Also I painted it with Dark Yellow, like the old one was remplaced by a new one.

The general look of the tools is good enought for this scale.

now is time to make the dust, earth and mud. This time, I have return to my old technque of pigments, but this time with the new AK pigments, which is a bit different than my old ones. The colors is also differnet. I was tired of the same shades so, the new ones are more ...neutral, less bright. Here you can find the whole range, limited, which means that it is the whole collection, just the basic stuff to avoid get crazy looking among 1 million colors. Now than the actual techniques is not only based in pigments, could be a good alternative these colors if we want to something ocasional, like in my case right now.

You can use the Pigment fixer or just White Spirit to fix the pigments. if you are not sure how will be the look, try frist the White Spirit and later the Fixer Glue. Pigments fixed with White Spirit can be removed more or less easily. Apply the different shades of pigments and then, use a brush with Fixer to humidify the surface.

Try to concentrate the dust around the details and use dar colors for the most hiden areas, around the details or turret, etc...
When it is dry, the look will be like this one. You can repeat the process as much as you want to increase the effect of acumulated earth or dust.

And now we will amke the mud with the actual method, using the enamel products from AK and plaster. Even if the Fresh Mud color is a bit satin, we can add Wet Effect Fluid to the mix to get a more shiny effect in the mud. Use an old brush to make the mix.

Low density mix of mud, this means, with more Enamel color and less plaster, will provide us smaller dots of mud when we make of splashed mud. Use an airbrush to project air over the brush loaded of mud mix. It will generate a nice splash over the front hull.

Use the same mix to apply mud in the tracks.

And after it is dry, apply the Dark Steel pigment to create the metal effect in the external parts fo the links. If it is not enought shiny, you always can mix this powder with Humbrol 11 (silver) and apply the mix with dry brush over the surface.

Well, the model is finished. We can add stowage or more details if we want , but I prefer to leave it clean of stuff to allow see the effects over the model.

I hope you have enjoy this big step by step. remeber that you have another 4 chapters explaining the whole process since the begining. if you have any doubt or comment, please, feel free to post here. Thank you very much for watching!

After a while in dry dock, I finished one of my favorite subjects, a Type 69 II C of the Hezbollah gorups in Iaran-Iraq war in the 80's. This Type 69 was captured to Iraqui forces and repainted with new numbers and the Hezbollah simbol, together with the red bands of identification. I must give thanks to my friend Charlie Pritchett, an expert in Irani forces and everything related to Iran-Iraq war. He finished this master for Verlinden Productions in cooperation with Andy Taylor (UK). They and more people involved in this neverend project made a great job, and now I was able to enjoy it. I hope you like it. This is so far, my favorite tank in all my life.

In 1994 I made my frist Type 69 II C, based in a old kit of an iraqui T55 from Verlinden. In that time I was not able to find too many info and ofc ourse, internet doens't exist. My money to buy books doens't exist!! So, I took a little info form a friend's book. I made many pieces by scratch and with a lot of imagination. If some  one doens't know how was my origen in the modelling carrier...this was the begining of my history. I published this model for for first time in my life in a magazine, 18 years ago, in Todo Modelismo magazine, Spain. This was only the first of more than hundries of articles in 18 different lenguages in the whole world...until now. Almost 2 decades later, I made this tribute to my origen, when I was just a young boy who never thought about to be in the modelling industry. You are dreaming now with to have your own future in the modelling....just do it. Now is time to start because the future is full of surprises and positive things. Good luck!

Hello friends.

Maybe not too many people know that the 1/72 th scale is my real hobby, and I do that just for me, with no step by step potos, and only for my own fun and enjoyment. Unfortunatly I have not too many time for it, so...is rare to find time for finish something. few weeks ago I was able to paint this Little Trumpeter T55 in a modelling meeting, and I was so happy to come back to my favorite scale. Even if it is almost out of box, the model is enought good for enjoy it painting it. I hope you like my Project of "just for fun":

Thank you

EGYPTIAN M109 A2 AFV CLUB

As maybe many of you know, I love the Egyptian Army. In fact is my favorite subject ever. Doens't matter Six Days War, Yom Kippur or modern ones, it is what make me happy. When I saw for first time the new AFV M109, first thing I thought is to make it under Egyptian army. I searched many pictures of it but where I found the real inspiration was inside a Egyptian propaganda video where I found the M109 in blue platoon colors. Egyptian used bright colors to identificate the units in their maniouvers, such yellow, black, white, orange, red or blue. In this case, the tactical simbols was also blue in combination with the air identificators. It was very original to my eyes, so, I decided to make this versión. There are camouflaged M109s in 3 colors, but I have only 2 bad quality pictures of them, so...the light sand versión was the "one" definitly.

The model was build in AFV CLUB HQ in Taipéi, so, I decided to "don't touch" any part of it, just paint it. It was a pity from one side, because the clear parts was necesarly lost because were already glued, like headlights, periscopes or visor.I just remplaced the tracks for another in metal. So, we can say that this kit is totally 100% out of box. Of course I added the license plates, the most important thing in any egyptian vehicle. But of course I must say that the kit is absolutly perfect under my point of view, so...just put in the trash the old Italery kits, because they will look like a plastic toy near to this incredible new kit.

The model was enterly painted with AK Interactive acrylics, weathered with the AK enamel products, pigments and oils.

Frontal headlights was painted by hand and adding X22 from Tamiya and SMOKE. The turret visor is a lense from AK Interactive.

The oil drops were painted with AK FRESH ENGINE OIL and a small brush diluting the product with White spirit.

Some important aspect in this Egyptian versión is that all tools were painted in black color. Like a curiose thing, note the light blue-green town cable. It can be painted in this color or even PINK!!!

Few months ago, Mr Tseung, president of AFV Club from Taiwán, offer me his pre-serie kit to be painted by my self. It was a big honour to me so now, it is dedicated to him. I hope you like it Mr Tseung.

SPECIAL THANKS TO MILINME.WORDPRESS.COM

To take inspiration for my Egyptian M109, I used many photos from this great place: http://milinme.wordpress.com/
Many of the effects in my M109 was based in similar ones on M60s, M113s and many other vehicles.

Also, I want to deciate this model to the Egyptian Army from my heart. It is my passion and I have spent hundries of hours just searching and learning from their battles and vehicles.

Thank you very much

LA TRISTEZA DE LA COPIA

$

Gracias

Mig Jimenez

Many years ago I made an attemp to make this original Ferdinand, but due my passed experiences I lost my first Ferdinand and I was not able to finish it. Fortunatly I was able to save the decals that a Japanese firend made for me, so, I was able to make again anew Ferdinand using the same decals. In fact, these russian text is the difficult part of this project. Jindra, my very close friend from Chezc Republic made the corrections of that text. I finished this new ferdinand just yesterday, specially for a Mexican event in next October 2013. It will be published also in the Weathering Magazine in the Kursk Issue. I hope you like it.

In the next comparative photo, you can see some diferences between my model and the original one. For example, I was not able to discover what is that rare light color lines in the rear hull, because in another photo of the same vehicle these lines are not visible. Also I added the Arial Antena....a bit damage. Even if the real one haven't the antena, I wanted to add this details to give to the model more volume and small details. Anyway, it could be possible. In any case, this is my personal interpretation, don't try to reproduce the rela one exactly.

Finally, I must say that was a good project to me, to do something without 1 million different colors in red, grey, yellow, etc, like it is getting fashion nowdays. Ok, it is a resource that can be used sometimes, but we must try to avoid to use the same thing in each model, specially because most of the tanks in WWII were without these amount of coloured patches of bright colors.

Thank you

Mig Jimenez

Mr. Mig Jimenez, Mr. Carlos Cuesta, Miss Elizabeth Wiese, Mr. Iain Hamilton and Mr. Rick Lawer want to inform all of their friends and associates who have been with us all these three years of “AK Interactive” the following:

- Mr. Mig Jimenez was the creator of “AK Interactive” along with Mr. Fernando Vallejo 3 years ago. From the very first moment Mr. Mig Jimenez and Mr. Fernando Vallejo agreed that the company “AK Interactive” belonged to both of them. Mr. Mig Jimenez just put his trust in his friend, Mr. Fernando Vallejo, since Mr. Mig Jimenez never came to be included in the legal documents and records of the company.

-Mr. Mig Jimenez was the creator of the entire image, logos, products, and marketing  of said company; however until last day October 9th , 2013, when Mr. Mig Jimenez was returning from a trip to Mexico for the promotion of the trademark, Mr. Mig Jimenez and Mr. Carlos Cuesta were fired without previous notice. Hence, Mr. Rick Lawler and Mr. Iain Hamilton left the company voluntarily at that moment in solidarity with Mr. Mig Jimenez and Mr. Carlos Cuesta.

- All quality control, development of ideas, books, DVDs and many others, were created by Mr. Mig Jimenez, as indicated in most products, such as the Book “FAQ 2”, leaving the distribution to his partner Mr. Fernando Vallejo. The relationship between Mr. Mig Jimenez and Mr. Fernando Vallejo has ended due to the breakage of the verbal covenant they both had from the beginning, resulting in the dismissal of Mr. Mig Jimenez in the face of an overall imbalanced situation.

- Only a week before the dismissal of Mr. Mig Jimenez, he, along with Mr. Fernando Vallejo wrote a contract in which it read that the magazine “The Weathering Magazine” was intellectual property of Mr. Mig Jimenez and that said magazine would become Mr. Mig Jimenez’s full property in case of his dismissal . To date, Mr. Fernando Vallejo hasn’t hand in any files, logo, web domains or servers relating to this magazine to Mr. Mig Jimenez, breaching said contract. Therefore, Mr. Mig Jimenez currently does not have any control or responsibility over the magazine nor over the subscribers or advertisers who, in any case, have paid their fees to “AK Interactive” not to Mr. Mig Jimenez.

- There are many other issues of legality that Mr. Mig Jimenez and Mr. Fernando Vallejo must solve. At the same time, Mr. Mig Jimenez is free to create or do anything he sees fit to continue his professional modeling career outside AK Interactive; creating new books, paintings , accessories or any other idea under the brand he wishes to, always respecting the existing contract; which he can make available to employees, suppliers or customers request.

Finally, it is our duty to notify that the Facebook account “AK INTERACTIVE FACEBOOK” was created exclusively by Miss Elizabeth Wiese who worked on it for three years selflessly with the sole aim of helping Mr. Fernando Vallejo and Mr. Mig Jimenez. As we all know, Miss Elizabeth Wiese used an “AK Interactive” account (eli@ak-interactive.com) authorized by Mr. Fernando Vallejo for all promotional work, helping countless times in sales care work, stands, as well as helping in promotion and customer service . As you all can see in the many photographs of “AK Interactive” albums on Facebook and the thousands of private messages she exchanged with many modelers.

-“AK Interactive”, since October 9th, 2013, has misappropriated of what Miss Elisabeth Wiese created from her own will and without any financial remuneration, which she rejected, for the sole interest in helping said company, grow .

All of us expose that “AK Interactive” under the direction of Mr. Fernando Vallejo, has acted in an improper way breaking all verbal agreements it had with Mr. Mig Jimenez just when the company “AK Interactive” had been consolidated internationally. This has led to a breakage in the trust, essential to continue with the existing collaboration to date.

It’s only up to you to judge what “AK Interactive” has done with Mr. Mig Jimenez. Thank you all for your friendship over the years and we ask you not measure up people’s success for how high up they get to reach, but by how high they bounce when they hit bottom .

I have read this important note in Armorama about my ex-company AK Interactive.
---------------------------------------------

"I'm Darius T. Cerver, owner of the paint factory that has manufactured the paint products for the company AK Interactive for distribution under its label. With this statement, I want to inform all modelers that from this day forward, we stop completely any collaboration with AK Interactive and our paints will no longer be distributed by this company. The various recent events and statements made public by the company worldwide, have forced me to make this announcement using the same media platform. It is therefore my intention to report that our entire paint range, including, enamel washes, oils, pigments, and acrylics, will immediately no longer be distributed by AK Interactive. Soon we will announce the company with whom we will work in the future. It is our hope and expectation to have your support in this new era. Thank you very much for your time and attention and we wish the best to AK.

Be sure that I will update you shortly.

(To all ENglish readers, sorry it is just a tread about a spanish forum and hard to traslate in english, my apologies)

"WHAT IF" Panther II, Under US Army!

I remember to have read in a book (maybe from Albert Speer) where supposedly, a cracked German government's part, wanted to force an alliance with the United States to fight against the communism. In fact, some of those Germans attempted without success the alliance until the last days of the Reich. It is also said that, the Germans facilitated and even favored subtly the allied advance in the eastern front, to be able to force them to fight against the Soviets. For Hitler has been a perfect solucción to avoid the destruction of his empire, but fortunately, the Americans didn't have any intention of allying with the Germans in a suicide.

This Panther is an example of what could have been if German and Americans have united their efforts to stop the Soviet locomotive. Surely, the Americans had put to their service some of the best German weapons. The German factories would have renewed the production to increase the number of tanks and vehicles in the battle field, but mainly to increase the quality and to take advantage of the proximity of the production place. Maybe, the Americans have carried out small changes, perhaps in the camuflage, the identifications, or secondary armament or radios.

My Panther II have an American radio and a German one too, to be able to communicate with all type of vehicles. Also, they have applied some stains of American green color on the German original camuflage, a little worn away.

The most important thing of everything is the infinite possibilities of combinations to make dioramas and ideas under the concept of that possible alliance. I hoep you like this "what if" history".

________________________________________________

Ahh, I need to finish the figure. I am painting it, so, I will post again with the figure update.

Recently AMMO by Mig Jimenez brand has released a brand new system of using and applying oil paints. The system they have devised looks a little like an eyelash brush applicator and vessel with oil paints inside. This system is said to improve the application of the oil paint and keep excess oil inside the container and it is called the "Oilbrusher." This latest issue of "The Weathering Magazine" is focused on the application of oil paints, as well as washes and filters. For those of you unfamilliar with this magazine, it is designed as a showcase of weathering and finishing techniques. The models are kind of secondary to some of the amazing model-in that is seen in thes pages and gee some of these are just top class. Just as good models as any other magazine out there, well shot, and fo rthe most part well written. there are some spelling errors here, but no less that what you might read in one of my articles, and TMN is not translated into eight languages as is this magazine! The price of this magazine is 8 Euros. For that, there are sixty-four pages in this softcover magazine on very nice, thick, glossy paper. There are, however, more six advertisements in this magazine which is not excessive, and they are single pages places between articles so the flow is not interrupted. There are ten short (a little too short some of them) sections in this book.

The owner of the publishing hose, Mr Mig Jimminez is first up, he is featured a lot in this issue which is great from a modeller's perspective. His work is the reason many people buy into this brand, the image and it's products. The intro focusses on his work with washes and filters from many years ago and how he sees their use changing in that time to the present. Also an introduction on oils and his new Oilbrusher series is discussed. In a focus on filters, we see several pages of neat practical walkthrough of the use, application and shades of filters that deepen, darken , lighten and enhance the look of your model. Which colours suit a particular scheme of vehicles is helpful, for example which colours suit desert sand, panzer grey, snow and other camo schemes is a great place for many people who are learning or those who are already using filters to be assured in their own technique. We next see a twelve page learning session on using washes and oils, again from Mig. The little AMX-13/105 is seen in every step of undercoat, painting the darker shades, then lighter, then chipping and wearing down. We then see the uses of panel washes to highlight and age sections of the model before Mig uses oils, and specifically the new oilbrusher - to bring shadow, dirt and grime and heavy use, as well as light and highlights to the model.

Along with the way the modeller uses the oil dot technique to render thier vehicles, this section is a wonderful essay in elearning these techiniques here, in the largest part of the magazine, I do wish all of the articles spent so much space and time on thier subject as this is a great walk through in SBS (step by step) fashion.

We next see a wonderful Hobbyboss AAvp-7a1 painted and weathered by Maxi Fernándes. His article is called "Outside the Loft," and it shows this amphibious vehicle from the camo paint onwards. Again, is is a SBS build showing how to run this pristine vehicle into something of a well travelled sea-worn and dirty old AFV that anyone would be very proud of.
Next, the boss is back with his tutorial of Washes, Filters and Streaked grime effects, using a WWII era japanese fighter as the subject. These are very popular with modellers who like to show somthing very worn in extreme. Streaking grime, panel washes and varied panels and prcise washes break up the monotone appearance of these monocrhome coloured fighters very nicely. The end product is small is scale but the detail is very nice.

AMMO staffer Sergiusz Pęczek is next with the first of two of his articles in this issue, this one featuring a German Sd.Kfz.251 half-track and how he uses oil highlights & combined grime effects to make this otherwise brightly coloured vehicle look like it has been worn and beaten by constant and stressful use. Only two pages, but an interesting article nonetheless.Next up, we see the ever popular Millenium Falcon in small scale from Konrad Dzik. He only has three pages but shows off to good effect how to wash and grime up his subject in a series of SBS shots and descriptions. It's good to see a space vehicle in amongst this lot of mostly military vehicles and how to treat such a different subject in a familiar way.The Jagdpanzer 38t (hetzer) and 8-RAD in small scale are next from Pat Johnston. To give credit where it is due I noticed that Pat uses Windsor & Newton Oils and Humbrol enamels on his model. Pat shows us over four pages how to use these oils to render shapes and light onto these otherwise dark looking subjects. He makes them come alive with his obvious (old school) talent. We get on board the rails next with Graziano Ghetti. He uses AMMO products to transform a working railroad model into something a lot more then envisaged by the makers. This little model (- or is it die-cast i am not sure?) is transformed into something we might see on the side of a railway track, either in disrepair or heavy use. He shows us over five pages of SBS and reference of the real thing - of which this model really looks close to - in his effective article.Acrylics on wash duty is last, with the second story from Sergiusz Pęczek , this time on modulation using thinned acrykics and transparitor. A three-page article that is a good learning tool, although like a lot of others in the later parts of this issue, it could do with more exposure in pages and space. That is it for this issue - I did like it a lot, and it helped my understanding of oils, washes and filters. There is more I would like to see, however.I say this with all of the magazines that are published by paint making companies. It is that they need to broaden their materials base that they use in these magazines to include other brands. I suppose you know what you are buying when you walk in the door with these. They would broaden their audience and the inclusion of model construction in at least a brief few steps would not go out of place also. However, this is not the reason why this magazine was conceived - and I understand this. If you look at this as a "How-To" book on using Mig's AMMO brand products, then there really isn't anything better than being walked through the processes than by the man himself, featured prominently in the pages of this mag.The tutorials are very good and I learned a bit from this issue, and that is why I would buy this magazine - job done then hey? In this issue were some beautiful models that were well shot, and stories sharp but to the point. Issue #15 does what it says on the tin, it informs you of the ways to wash, use filters and to use oils on your models and it does it in a very pretty, but controlled fashion.

MY WORK STUFF, WEATHERING ARTICLES

Hello friends.
Yesterday I finished several articles for AK-interactive, the new brand which I am working for.
I am so happy to do this kind of work again, because show techniques is what I like most. I made a blog like this one, because I think that is much better than to design a new web site. In a blog, you can search what you need by key words, or even by Reference Number. I have recived many letters the last days asking me how to use the AK products and better than send individual replies is to do this new blog for everybody. Everything related to AK products will be published in that blog, and my general and personal stuff will be published here as always. I hope you like the new space and don't be shy to ask or propose new ideas or articles. Please, vist it and let me know your thoughts.

AK-interactive blog, click here.

During this month I will be working in the next DVD. I just want to paint another model to make it more complete. So...no more vacations for me this year (well, maybe few days... who know!!!)
Thank you all of you and please, excuseme if I haven't reply your email. I got many everydays and I cannot reply as faster as I would like. If you have any urgent question or something prioritary, say that in your message tittel, so...when I check them again I can remeber the subject of each one and give the priority to the urgent ones.
